PROLIX objectives are in detail:

1 - PROLIX aims to enable an organisation to close the learner's life cycle by providing support for the implementation of the international acknowledged P(lan)-D(o)-C(heck)-A(ct) Philosophy within Organisations. This goal will be reached when PROLIX can prove a closed learner's life cycle from methodological and technical point of view. This will be measured with management audits verifying the implementation of the life cycle.
Also targets will be defined for the reduction of the learner's life time. This will be verified by benchmark measurements within the Pilots. The PROLIX project is aiming at average a reduction of 20% of the time needed to identify a business need until to the time the competency gap has been bridged through learning.

2 - PROLIX aims to make it easier to define Learning Goals based on business needs and business processes by providing methodologies, tools and services within business process management that link to learning design methodologies. This goal will be reached when PROLIX can show that the methodologies enhance business process management activities regarding competency and skill analysis in a usable and appropriate way. This will result in shortening the time period between the identification of the business process needs and the definition of the Learning Goals (target 20%) and the increase of the efficiency of the related business activities (10%). Also important is if the identified competency gaps reflect the real gaps. This will be verified by benchmark measurements during the Pilots.

3 - PROLIX aims to deliver a methodology for matching of needed competencies with "as-hoc" profiles resulting in an accurate didactical learning scenario definition and configuration. This goal will be reached if PROLIX can demonstrate that appropriate learning scenario's can be designed to fulfil the defined learning goals. This will be tested with use cases provided by the Pilot Partners and validated during the Pilots. This goal will result in a decrease of the lead time, between the identification of Learning Goals and definition of learning processes and an increase the efficiency of the related business activities. This will be verified with benchmark measurements during the Pilots.
 
4 - PROLIX aims to provide competence oriented process decision support through simulation for the benefit of organisational and individual team learning with a quantitative feedback for business processes and required/ changed competencies by
  • Providing a concept for the PROLIX competency oriented process simulator.
  • Developing scenarios for competency oriented process simulations according to company needs.
  • Developing and providing a service to simulate real work situations for the benefit of individual and team-oriented competence development in different branches, under different conditions and requirements.
The goal will be reached if it is possible to give a quantitative feedback to re-adjust processes or competencies. This must be based on goals that companies want to reach concerning performance criteria for their business processes.

5 - PROLIX aims to integrate Learning Technology Solutions with Business Information Systems by
  • Providing a Learning Process Execution Platform to enable the measurement of the individual qualification needs based on valid tests ("diagnosis") and instantiate configured learning processes based on the competency analysis and matching according to the learner.
  • Providing Learning Process Workflow Services (LPWS) to manage the learning processes. These Services have the "knowledge" of the configured learning processes and execute the various learning application services within SMS Skill Management, LMS Learning Management Systems, LCMS Learning Content Management Systems and KMS Knowledge Management Systems.
  • Providing alignment of learning activities to the business process needs by integrating learning services into existing business process platforms.
This goal will be reached, when PROLIX delivers an open learning platform integrating the needed systems to close the learner's life cycle by providing interfaces to business management systems, competency management systems, learning content management systems as well as performance measurement systems.
 
6 - PROLIX aims to monitor Learner 's Performance according to Business Needs by
  • Providing services to measure the resulting learner performance both in terms of competencies acquired and in terms of effectiveness in solving the original problem, performing the ´job' or coping with the (business) process change.
  • Providing models for corporate learning success and react ion pat terns to training results.
This goal is reached when it is possible to measure learner performance in relation to the defined learning goals and business needs. This will be tested with use cases provided by the Pilot Partners and validated during the Pilots. This goal will result in an increase of the efficiency of performance management activities by 30%. This will be verified with benchmark measurements during the Pilots.

7 - PROLIX aims to provide an Open Business Enterprise Learning and Information Systems exchange Reference Architecture (OBELIX) by
  • Opening the PROLIX architecture to other vendors and information systems industries.
  • Providing services for the access to a large network of learning repositories that will provide respective learning material. The services are based on the emerging standards for internetworking of learning management systems, e.g. the "Simple Query Interface (SQI) " and "Open Knowledge Initiative Interface (OKI)".
  • Providing an open web service infrastructure with registry functionally among others.
This goal will be reached when other Vendors can integrate their products as PROLIX services with limited additional effort. This will be measured by evaluating the feedback of integration efforts from the members of the OBELIX user group, Pilots partners and other European corporations during the Project. Adaptations to the reference architecture will be made based on the evaluation results.

8 - PROLIX will develop a repository of Didactical Learning Models to enable the identification of Learning scenarios for process- oriented learning. This goal will be reached when all didactical models needed to support the PROLIX pilots are defined based on the use case descript ions as provide by the PROLIX Pilot Partners. The usage of the repository will result in potential increase of efficiency by enabling exchange and interoperability of e-learning didactics and materials.
